GPT 3.5 vs GPT 4: A Comparison of AI Language Models for Up-to-Date Information

By April 11th, 2023No Comments3 min read

In today’s rapidly evolving world, having access to up-to-date information is crucial. This is especially true when it comes to AI-generated content. In this blog post, we will compare two popular AI language models, GPT 3.5 and GPT 4, to determine which one can provide more accurate and up-to-date information. We will conduct a series of tests, comparing the responses of both models, and analyze their performance in each test.

Test 1: iPhone 14 Specs Comparison

To begin, we asked both GPT 3.5 and GPT 4 to write an article about the specs of the iPhone 14 and how it compares to the iPhone 13.

GPT 3.5’s Response

GPT 3.5 provided a speculative article on the iPhone 14, as it acknowledged that the iPhone 14 was not yet available at the time of its training. The information provided was relatively generic, focusing on display, camera, processor, design, and battery life. However, it did not offer specific details on pricing.

GPT 4’s Response

On the other hand, GPT 4 discussed the iPhone 14 as if it had already been released. This might be due to its ability to deduce the iPhone 14’s release from older content, such as blog posts discussing the expected release date. GPT 4 provided more accurate information on the design, display, and performance of the iPhone 14, such as:

  • 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display
  • Refresh rate of up to 120 Hz

However, it also made some mistakes, such as claiming the iPhone 14 has an A16 Bionic chip, while it actually has the A15 Bionic chip with a 5-core GPU. Despite these inaccuracies, GPT 4’s response was more detailed and nuanced compared to GPT 3.5’s.

Test 2: What is GPT 4?

In the second test, we asked both models to provide information about GPT 4.

GPT 3.5’s Response

GPT 3.5 claimed that GPT 4 did not exist and identified it as a hypothetical successor to OpenAI’s GPT 3 language model. This response shows that GPT 3.5 was not aware of the existence of GPT 4.

GPT 4’s Response

In contrast, GPT 4 acknowledged its own existence and provided a clear definition of itself. This response demonstrates that GPT 4 is aware of its release and can provide more accurate information about its capabilities.

Test 3: New MacBook Air with M2 Chip

We then asked both models about the new MacBook Air with the M2 chip.

GPT 3.5’s Response

GPT 3.5’s response was relatively general, discussing the MacBook Air but not providing specific details about the M2 chip.

GPT 4’s Response

GPT 4, while admitting that it did not have information beyond 2021, provided a speculative description of the new MacBook Air with the M2 chip. It offered more detailed information on the M2 chip based on pre-2021 data and blog posts discussing the expected features of the chip.

Test 4: Silicon Valley Bank Failure Inquiry

Finally, we asked both models about the failure of the Silicon Valley Bank.

GPT 3.5’s Response

GPT 3.5 claimed that the bank had not failed and was still operating, indicating that it was not aware of any recent developments related to the bank’s failure.

GPT 4’s Response

GPT 4 provided more information about the bank’s history while acknowledging that the information might be outdated. It also mentioned the possibility of developments related to the bank’s failure after September 2021, which it would not be aware of.

Conclusion

Based on the tests conducted, GPT 4 has several advantages over GPT 3.5:

  1. Trained on more datasets: GPT 4 has been trained on more data, which allows it to provide more accurate and up-to-date information.
  2. More intuitive model: GPT 4 is a more advanced language model, capable of deducing information from older content and providing more nuanced responses.

However, it is essential to fact-check AI-generated information, as both models may provide inaccurate details. Users should always verify the information provided by AI language models before publishing content or making decisions based on their responses.

If you have used GPT 4, we would love to hear your thoughts on its capabilities and how it compares to other models. Additionally, if you have discovered any unique use cases for GPT 4, please share them in the comments below.
